Who am I to say these things feel the same to you? I have realized that things are trustworthy. I have realized I can count on the coin, or on the cornerstone. I can count on the cordons, the careful connotations, the cracking paint on the wall. By the time M— realizes he forgot his watch, I lie about the time and tell him he should hurry, he’s going to be late. In the evening, when R— asks me how much I love him, I admit that I have been busy and tell him very soon.
